The special pedagogical concept for the new reform school in Varel needs a place with a balanced relation between enclosure and openness for the pupils to study and play in a sheltered environment. Three school levels form three wedge-shaped components that overlap each other and interlock with its surroundings and preexisting neighbouring buildings. The building frames three courtyards – the communal entrance and the schoolyards of primary school and secondary school. Within the entrance hall two wide stairs lead directly into the inner areas of primary and secondary school. These central interior spheres form an inner landscape of differentiated spatial areas with study niches, playing areas and spacious halls for big gatherings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
